The New
Building of Liaoning Provincial Museum Ushered In Its Overall Opening
On August 17th,
Chinese Ancient Calligraphy Exhibition, Paintings in Ancient China and Silk
Tapestry and Embroidery in Ancient China were officially put into trial
operation. So far, Liaoning Provincial Museum has finished it move into the new
building, which marks the overall opening of the new building of Liaoning
Provincial Museum after three years of trial operation.
The
predecessor of the Liaoning Provincial Museum, the Northeast Museum, is the
first large-scale historical art museum established by the people's political
power in New China. It carries the 5,000-year Liaohe River civilization gene,
and has nearly 120,000 pieces/sets of cultural relics in its collection. The new
buildingof Liaoning Provincial Museumwas started in August 2011 and the civil
works were completed in June 2013. It covers an area of 83,200 square meters and a building area of 100,013 square meters. It is divided into five functional
areas: exhibition, audience service, cultural relic storeroom, cultural relics
protection and comprehensive business. The exhibition area includes three
floors and has 22 exhibition halls, which are divided into permanent exhibition
halls and temporary exhibition halls. The permanent exhibitions include Ancient
Liaoning and 12 cultural relic theme exhibitions. On May 16th, 2015, the new
building of Liaoning Provincial Museum opened its 8 exhibition halls on first
floor for its first trial run. It launched three theme exhibition halls – Tablet
Inscriptions of Ancient China, Exhibition
of Ming and Qing Porcelains and Exhibition of Ming and Qing Jade. It also
organized special exhibitions with a variety of contents with its 5 temporary
exhibition halls. On September 22, 2017, it started its second phase of the
trial run by launching Ancient Liaoning, Exhibition of Bronze Mirrors of Ancient
Chinese, Exhibition of Ceramic Ware of the Liao Dynasty, Glorious Image of
Buddha Exhibition of Buddha Statues, Exhibition of Ancient Chinese Currencies and
Exhibition of Chinese Seals were successively in 5 theme exhibition halls. On
June 23, 2018, the Manchu Customs Exhibition was officially put into trial
operation. On August 17th, Chinese Ancient Calligraphy Exhibition, Paintings
in Ancient China and Silk Tapestry and Embroidery in Ancient China were
officially put into trial operation. So far, all 22 exhibition halls of Liaoning
Provincial Museum have been opened to the audience.
The new
building of Liaoning Provincial Museum ranks forefront among the
provincial-level museum of China in terms ofexhibition area (24,000 square
meters), the number of permanent exhibitions (13), the length of exhibition
line (4,200 linear meters), cultural relics on exhibition (more than 6,200
pieces) and the percentage of cultural relics on display in total collection
(5%) and exhibition rate of the choices in collection.
